Overview

The Diploma in Optometry & Ophthalmic Technique (D.OPT) at Deben Mahata Government Medical College & Hospital, Purulia is designed to develop skilled ophthalmic technicians capable of supporting eye-care services in government and private healthcare settings. DMGMCH is a government-run medical institution with an attached teaching hospital that provides students with direct clinical exposure. The course emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and hands-on training in areas such as visual acuity testing, refraction techniques, use of ophthalmic instruments, patient handling, and assistance during eye examinations and procedures. Through structured practical postings, students gain experience in real hospital environments, particularly in ophthalmology departments. The program follows the curriculum laid down by the State Medical Faculty of West Bengal, ensuring standardized training and employability in eye hospitals, clinics, and optical centers.

Eligibility

1. Passed 10+2 from a recognized board
2. Preferably with Science (PCB) subjects
3. Must fulfill age and documentation requirements as prescribed by SMFWB
4. Selection based on merit and/or counseling process conducted by the competent authority
