Overview

  1. The Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology (DOTT) at Jhargram Government Medical College & Hospital is a paramedical diploma course offered under the guidelines and curriculum of the State Medical Faculty of West Bengal (SMFWB). It is designed to equip students with essential skills to operate effectively in surgical environments, including preparing patients for surgery, managing operating theatre procedures and equipment, and assisting clinical staff during operations.
  2. Over the two‑year academic period, students study subjects such as human anatomy and physiology, surgical principles, sterilization and disinfection, peri‑operative patient care, instrument handling, and basic anaesthesia awareness. This theoretical foundation is reinforced with hands‑on practical work. After completing the academic portion, students undergo a six‑month compulsory practical training/internship (post‑final examination) as prescribed by SMFWB, enhancing clinical exposure and competence before being awarded the diploma.
  3. Graduates are trained to work as Operation Theatre Technicians/Technologists in government and private hospitals, nursing homes, and surgical centers, supporting surgical teams in delivering patient care.
