Diploma in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Overview

A course in Emergency Medical Technician trains aspirants in managing urgent health scenarios outside the hospital (pre-hospital), such as road accidents, cardiac arrests, trauma, etc. Through theory classes and practical training, students learn anatomy & physiology, emergency medical procedures, basic life support (BLS), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), airway management, and trauma stabilization. The curriculum often includes simulations, ambulance ride-along or clinical exposure, scenario-based teaching, and hands-on practice in handling emergencies. Graduates are prepared to work in ambulances, emergency response teams, hospitals, and disaster relief services, serving as first responders to stabilize patients before hospital care.

Eligibility

• 10+2 (or 12th standard) from a recognized board. 
• Sometimes 10th pass accepted for basic EMT / certificate courses. 
• Minimum aggregate marks (varies; often ~45-50%) in board exams.
• Physical fitness (ability to do emergency work, shift work, lifting, etc.).
• Age requirement (often 17-18 years or above) in many institutions.
