Diploma in Dialysis Technology (DDT)

Overview

Dialysis Technology is a paramedical program designed to train competent technicians who assist in the treatment of kidney failure through dialysis procedures. Students learn about renal physiology, mechanisms of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, maintenance and operation of dialysis machines, safety protocols, and patient care during dialysis sessions. The curriculum often includes both classroom theory and hands-on practical work, including clinical rotations or internships in dialysis centres to build real-world skills. Emphasis is placed on equipment maintenance, infection control, understanding of dialysis water treatment, vascular access monitoring, and emergency management. Graduates are expected to work under supervision and collaborate with nephrologists, nurses, and other support staff in hospital settings, clinics, or standalone dialysis units.

Eligibility

• 10+2 pass (or equivalent) from a recognized board.
• Often with PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology). Some institutes accept other streams.
• Minimum percentage required (often ~45-50%).
• Sometimes age criteria (e.g. minimum 17 or 18 years).
