Cardiothoracic laboratory technician is a professional who works in the field of cardiovascular technology. Cardiothoracic laboratory technician candidate will be trained to work to assist doctors during invasive cardiovascular procedures such as cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, device implantation and electrophysiology.
Cardiothoracic laboratory technicians are a part of the cardiovascular catheterization teams who work alongside cardiologists - doctors who specialize in the heart and treatment of heart-related conditions. They are trained to have highly specialized set of skills and knowledge in order to assist with surgical procedures such as stent insertion, advanced cardiac life support, and interventional procedures in the Catherization Theater.

On successful completion of the course, the student will be competent to:

• Independently handle the latest technology relevant to heart diseases, diagnosis, and treatment
• Learn and apply the principles of sterilization, disinfection, infection control and aseptic techniques
• Perform invasive and non-invasive diagnostic examinations and therapeutic interventions of the heart and/or blood vessels under supervision
• Learn logistics of medical and diagnostic supplies
• Identify and know the instruments and equipment used in different procedures
• Acquire sound knowledge of special procedures and able to assist as a team member.
• Develop qualities to work effectively with good communication skills.
