Certificate Course in Disaster Medicine

Any person with a Health Science degree is a suitable candidate for this course. Since it is a nation capacity building initiative, every enrolled candidate will be evaluated for their potential to become a trainer.

Course Duration is 6 months, but can be completed in one year. This certificate course will have a flexible credit based structure, which allows the best training and learning where the student can learn at his own pace and can learn what (s)he perceives that would help him/her in his future professional career.

This is a 15-credit 6-month course for any persons with a Health Science degree.

The objectives of this course are:

• Train health care personnel to respond in a professional manner to the disasters in India.
• Develop a knowledge base and skills to tackle Public Health aspects all phases of the disaster cycle,.
• Participation in medical aspects of state and national disaster preparedness planning processes and programs.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Indian Preparedness and Response approach.
• Create leaders for community based disaster medical preparedness and first response.
• Training the trainers in Disaster health research and teaching skills.

The goal of this course is to build capacity for a cadre of healthcare personnel who are trained and certified to respond promptly and appropriately, in situations of disaster and humanitarian conflict in India.

There will be no entrance exam for candidates, but there will be evaluations through the course.
