About

The Central Labour Institute (CLI), Mumbai was conceived by the Government of India during the first five year plan as a centre for research, training and consultancy on the various aspects of industrial work related to the human factor. The institute commenced its activities in a rented building in 1961. On the 7th October 1954 the foundation stone of the CLI building was laid by the first Prime Minister of India, Late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. It was shifted to its present premises in 1966 when the building was inaugurated on the 9th February, 1966 by Late Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, the then President of India.
