About

The Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) is a premier institution for mental health in India. The hospital was established on 17th May, 1918 in a British era with the name of Ranchi European Lunatic Asylum. The CIP Ranchi has come a long way covering a journey of 100 years witnessing many transitions and at the same time taking the credit of development of a comprehensive mental health service delivery centre. It has also witnessed many innovations in the field of mental health and neurosciences including clinical services, state of art research and manpower training in the country. The institute campus has spread across in 211 acres land in the picturesque city of Ranchi. The CIP offers the latest medical advances in an environment that promotes mental health and enhances a sense of well being. The hospital has 17 Wards out of which 7 wards are of the male patients and 6 of the female patients, one ward for centre for child & adolescent psychiatry, one ward is centre for addiction psychiatry, one Family Unit and one Emergency Ward.
