Cardiothoracic OT Nurse Certificate Course

Applicants must have completed Bachelor in Nursing or GNM course.

The programme aims to prepare competent Cardiac OT Nurses who can learn basics of cardiac procedures and assist surgeons during surgeries. They will participate in clinical or practical courses and lectures. They can discuss the surgical environment, operating room safety protocols. The course cover a variety of topics, such as introduction to perioperative cardiac nursing and assessment, aseptic techniques, operating room safety, scrubbing & assisting the surgeons, OT hold protocols, operating rooms skill, instruments care and handling, post procedure and patient management. It offers challenging methods of facilitating and teaching aimed at enhancing the role of cardiac nurses providing quality and safe care in the management patient, who are undergoing cardiac surgery. It addresses emerging local, regional and global health changes in cardiac care and collaboration of health care professionals.

On successful completion of the course, the student will be competent to:

• To know Intensive care of patients before, during and after the surgery or treatment of a patient in the operating units.
• Review basic heart anatomy.
• Know clinical judgement in critical care.
• Identify indications for adult cardiac surgery.
• Comprehend pre-operative and post-operative cardiac surgery nursing evaluation.
• Familiarize cardiac arrest management after cardiac surgery.
• Interpret cardiac diseases and critical care nursing management.
