Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS)

Overview

Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery also known as B.U.M.S. is an undergraduate medical degree in the field of Unani Medicine and Surgery. The term Unani of BUMS means ‘Greek’ as the term Unani (Perso-Arabic) system was the teaching of Greek Physicians Hippocrates and Galen. BUMS medicine is well known for the four classical humours of Hippocrates - phlegm (balgham), blood (dam), yellow bile (safra) and black bile (sauda). However, the medical system is also influenced by the Indian and Chinese traditions. Unani medicine system was introduced in India by the Arabs and the Persians in the 11th century. BUMS education and training system in India is being authorised by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), which is a statutory body under the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH).

Admission seekers must have passed 10+2 or equivalent qualification, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology as main subjects
