Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Operation Theatre Technology (B.Sc OTT) is an undergraduate programme designed to prepare students for roles in surgical and interventional theatre settings within hospitals and healthcare facilities. The curriculum blends foundational biological sciences (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry), allied health knowledge (microbiology, pharmacology, pathology), and specialised training in operating theatre technology — including instrumentation, sterilisation, surgical procedures, patient monitoring, waste management, emergency preparedness and theatre management. Students engage in hands-on practical learning, hospital attachments/off-theatre exposure, and often internships in operational theatre environments. The programme emphasizes teamwork with surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nurses and technicians — ensuring smooth functioning of theatres, adherence to safety & infection control protocols, maintenance of surgical equipment, and support for pre-, intra- and post-operative patient care. Graduates are well-positioned to take roles such as OT technologist/technician, surgical assistant, OT manager, or move into advanced training/paramedical specialisations. Given advances in surgical technology and increased demand for qualified support personnel, this programme offers strong career potential in both public and private healthcare sectors.
