Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology (BSc MLT) is a focused undergraduate programme designed to train graduates to become skilled professionals in clinical diagnostics and laboratory services. The curriculum combines foundational sciences (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry), with focused laboratory disciplines such as microbiology, pathology, haematology, immunology, molecular diagnostics, and instrumentation. Students gain hands-on exposure in clinical laboratories, hospital settings and diagnostic labs, learning specimen collection, processing, analysis, reporting and quality assurance. The programme emphasises both theoretical understanding and practical skills, preparing students to support physicians by conducting diagnostic tests, interpreting data and ensuring accurate and timely results. On completion, graduates are equipped to enter roles in hospitals, diagnostic centres, blood banks, research labs or pursue higher studies in allied health sciences. The rising importance of diagnostics in modern healthcare and disease-management systems makes this speciality increasingly critical.
