Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

• Passed 10+2 (or equivalent) in the Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English.
• Minimum aggregate percentage: General category ≈ 50% in PCB; reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC) lower (≈ 40%).
• Minimum age: 17 years (by 31 December of the year of admission).
• Qualify NEET-UG as per the latest rules for MBBS admissions.
• Additional institution-specific or state/domicile criteria may apply (depending on the college/state).

The MBBS degree is India’s primary undergraduate qualification required to practise medicine. It equips students with comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical exposure across a wide range of medical disciplines, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, pharmacology, forensic medicine, and extensive clinical training in medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics & gynaecology, community medicine, and more. The academic phase is followed by a compulsory rotating internship in hospital settings, which enables the graduate to gain real-world medical experience under supervision, developing clinical skills, professional judgement, patient-care competency, and readiness for independent medical practice or advanced specialisation. The programme is regulated by the National Medical Commission to ensure standardisation, quality, and eligibility for licensure. MBBS graduates may subsequently opt for postgraduate medical education (MD/MS) or enter directly into medical service roles, hospitals, clinics, public health, research, or allied health domains.

1. Complete Class 12 (or equivalent) with the required subjects and meet the minimum eligibility marks.
2. Register and appear for NEET-UG conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
3. When NEET results are declared, check counselling eligibility as per category (General/OBC/SC/ST, etc.).
4. Participate in medical college counselling (All-India Quota/State Quota) for seat allotment based on NEET rank, preferences, and availability.
5. After seat allotment, complete admission formalities at the assigned college (document verification, fee payment, registration).
6. Commence the course and follow the prescribed academic schedule; complete the academic phase and then the mandatory rotating internship.
7. On successful completion of all phases and internship, obtain an MBBS degree and register with the medical council/regulatory body to practise.
