Government Medical College, Handwara, is a recently established medical institution in the Kupwara district of Jammu & Kashmir (approved in 2023). The college was set up with considerable infrastructure investment as part of a government initiative to improve medical education and healthcare access in remote northern Kashmir. MBBS at GMC Handwara aims to deliver high‐quality medical education under the regulatory framework of the National Medical Commission, following competency‐based medical education norms. The curriculum includes pre‐clinical, para‐clinical, and clinical subjects, practical exposure, and a one‐year rotatory internship. 1. Eligibility Verification: Ensure you satisfy the basic academic criteria (10+2 with PCB subjects, required marks, domicile/other state quotas if applicable).
2. NEET-UG Exam: Register for and take the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates. Obtain a valid score.
3. Meet Cut-offs: Based on your NEET-UG score, check if you meet the cut-off for GMC Handwara—either under All India Quota or State Quota.
4. Counselling Process:

• For All India Quota (AIQ) (15% seats) => counselling through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
• For State Quota (85% seats for J&K) => counselling via the state’s medical admissions authority (JK BOPEE or whichever is responsible).

1. Seat Allotment: Based on rank, choice filling, and availability, seats are allotted.
2. Document Verification & Fee Payment: Once a seat is allotted, submit the required documents and pay the fees.
3. Commencement of Classes & Internship: After admission, the academic session begins, and after passing the academic part, the 1-year internship follows.
