Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

Overview

The MBBS programme at Sharda University aims at imparting quality education and training to students to help them in contributing to the growth of the health and medicine sector. The curriculum is designed to cultivate a culture of teamwork, scientific enquiry and lifelong learning for the students and the pedagogy used includes distinct teaching/learning methods that cater to different learning characteristics of a culturally diverse group of students like lectures, small group teaching, computer workshops, laboratory classes and problem-based learning.

Teaching is complemented by case-based learning and early exposure to patient care in a variety of health community settings. Students have access to teaching with a strong scientific emphasis throughout the programme which helps them to develop skills in research techniques and methodology and gain the ability to apply evidence-based medicinal practices in their career. The programme is regulated by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and spans for four and a half years divided into semesters, followed by a compulsory internship for a year.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEO)

An Indian Medical Graduate should:

• PEO1: recognize `health for all' as a national goal and health right of all citizens and by undergoing training for medical profession fulfill his/her social obligations towards realization of this go
• PEO2:learn every aspect of National policies on health and devote himself/herself to its practical implementation
• PEO3  : achieve competence in practice of holistic medicine, encompassing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative aspects of common diseases
• PEO4: develop scientific temper, acquire educational experience for proficiency in profession and promote healthy living.
• PEO5: become exemplary citizen by observation of medical ethics and fulfilling social and professional obligations, so as to respond to national aspirations

Program Outcomes (PO’s)

• PO1: be competent in diagnosis and management of common health problems of the individual and the community, commensurate with his/her position as a member of the health team at the primary, secondary or tertiary levels, using his/her clinical skills based on history, physical examination and relevant investigations.
• PO2: be competent to practice preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative medicine in respect to the commonly encountered health problems.
• PO3: be able to appreciate the socio-psychological, cultural, economic and environmental factors affecting health and develop humane attitude towards the patients in discharging one's professional responsibilities
• PO4: be familiar with the basic factors which are essential for the implementation of the National Health Programmes including practical aspects of the following: (i) Family Welfare and Material and Child Health(MCH) (ii) Sanitation and water supply (iii) Prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases (iv) Immunization (v) Health Education (vi) IPHS standard of health at various level of service delivery, medical waste disposal. (vii) Organizational institutional arrangements.
• PO5: acquire basic management skills in the area of human resources, materials and resource management related to health care delivery, General and hospital management, principal inventory skills and counseling.
• PO6: be able to work as a leading partner in health care teams and be competent to work in a variety of health care settings acquire proficiency in communication skills and attitudes required for professional life such as personal integrity, sense of responsibility and dependability and ability to relate to or show concern for other individuals.

Eligibility

For National Students: As per NMC  Guidelines Must be NEET UG Qualified and allotted through UPDGME Uttar Pradesh Lucknow.

For International Students: The eligibility criterion for all programs for international applicants is minimum 50% in the qualifying examination and having studied the pre-requisite subjects for admission in to the desired program.
