The Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science (BS CLS) at UNC School of Medicine (UNCSOM), Chapel Hill is an undergraduate professional program designed to prepare students for careers as Clinical Laboratory Scientists/Medical Laboratory Scientists who play a vital role in disease diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and patient care. The program combines foundational biomedical sciences with specialized laboratory education in areas such as clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, immunohematology (blood banking), molecular diagnostics, and laboratory management. Students receive hands-on laboratory training and clinical experiences in healthcare settings, including affiliated clinical laboratories, to develop skills in diagnostic testing, quality control, laboratory procedures, and healthcare technology. Graduates are prepared to work in hospital laboratories, diagnostic centers, research laboratories, public health facilities, and pursue professional certification or advanced education in laboratory medicine.
