The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Madurai, was officially established on July 3, 2020, through a Government of India gazette notification. The primary objective of AIIMS Madurai is to address regional disparities in the availability of affordable and reliable tertiary healthcare services and to enhance facilities for high-quality medical education across the country.
Currently, AIIMS Madurai operates from its temporary campus at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Ramanathapuram. The academic section commenced in the 2021-2022 academic year. The institution presently accommodates three batches of students and is poised to welcome its fourth batch, reflecting its expanding educational capacity.
