All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal

The AIIMS, New Delhi model will be adopted and adapted. Unlike postgraduate institutions, which lack basic departments like Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, General Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, etc., the new AIIMS will have these departments as well as super specialty departments like Neurosurgery, Cardiac Surgery, Urology, Endocrinology, etc. Planning is also done in the departments of Accident and Emergency, Biostatistics, Medical Engineering, Hospital Administration, Genetics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Telemedicine, Clinical Epidemiology and Medical Education Cell, etc. This institute should promote basic scientists and biotechnologists and provide opportunities to work in close proximity to the rich clinical material by undertaking studies in genomics, proteomics & metabonomics. A lot of effort will go into finding, attracting, hiring & retaining talented faculty because it is faculty that makes an institution great. Department heads will be strengthened by writing an annual statement and an annual confidential report on faculty appointments and promotions. Annual self-assessment by the faculty will be updated in the form of an e-portfolio. Each department will have a 5-year development plan. The entire campus township is expected to have high-quality interoperability and enterprise resource planning with an intranet, database for patients, staff & students, storehouse management, voice and image transmission & security systems. A procurement department will facilitate procurement in all departments. The e-tendering policy will be followed for maximum transparency and efficiency.
